Our classes are offered for those interested in learning about firearm safety through advanced firearm programs. We will match your interests and requirements to the correct course to ensure a positive and enjoyable learning experience.

Perhaps you are interested in getting a non-resident concealed carry permit. Some states, such as Florida, require proof of successful completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course.

Also, some counties in New York State require the successful completion of a recognized firearms safety course such as the NRA First Steps Pistol or Basic Pistol Shooting Course to apply for a pistol permit.

NRA First Step Pistol Class

This 3 to 4 hour class is an orientation or "First Step" program for one type of pistol. This course provides a thorough introduction to firearm safety, handling, and shooting skills. As any skill requires practice to become proficient, we highly encourage range practice with one of our NRA Certified Instructors.

Requirements: You will need your pistol, ear and eye protection, and 30 rounds of ammunition for the range. Got Guns? can provide a pistol if necessary. NO firearms or live ammunition will be allowed in the classroom.

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Four%20ShootersThis 8 hour course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. This is a REQUIRED course for application to some States’ Non-Resident Concealed Carry Permits such as Florida! The course is divided into classroom time and range time. Students are introduced to a variety of pistols - revolver and semi-automatic, parts and operations of a pistol, components of ammunition, proper ammunition selection, pistol safety, shooting fundamentals as well as shooting from bench rest to standing positions, and a variety of shooting marksmanship programs.

Requirements: You will need your pistol, ear and eye protection, and 30 rounds of ammunition for range time. NO firearms or live ammunition will be allowed in the classroom. Got Guns? can provide a pistol if necessary.

NRA First Step Rifle Class

This is a 3 to 4 hour class that provides the beginner with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a specific rifle model safely.

This class includes an introduction to rifle safety, parts and operation as well as an introduction to ammunition, the fundamentals of rifle shooting, shooting from a bench rest position, as well as rifle cleaning, proper storage and other rifle shooting marksmanship programs.

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

Four%20ShootersThis is a 2 day course introducing students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and shooting a rifle safely in target shooting. The course is divided into classroom time and range time.

Students are introduced to a variety of rifles including bolt action and semi-automatic riflesand their parts and operations. Additionally, students learn about components of ammunition and proper ammunition selection, rifle safety, shooting fundamentals as well as shooting from bench rest to standing positions, and a variety of shooting marksmanship programs.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

Four%20ShootersThis teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

This is an 8 hour course. Students will learn:

  • basic defensive shooting skills
  • strategies for home safety
  • responding to a violent confrontation
  • firearms and the law
  • how to choose a handgun for self-defense
  • continued opportunities for skill development
NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for:
  • law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law
  • experienced shooters (shooters who are able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm)
Requirements: If you are eligible as defined above, you will need to provide proof of shooting experience such as the NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification or pass the pre-course assessment. You will also need your pistol, ear and eye protection, and a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition for range time. NO firearms or live ammunition will be allowed in the classroom.

NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course

Comprehensive and intensive in its approach to equip the defensive shooting candidate with the skills needed to survive serious adversity.

The course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset to firearm presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation.

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home is divided into two levels (basic and advanced):

  • Level one is a 9 hour course and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home
  • Upon completion of level one, students may choose to attend level two, which is an additional 5 hours of range training and teaches advanced shooting skills
Requirements: This course is for adults who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute. You must possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate or by passing the pre-course evaluation. You will also need your pistol, ear and eye protection, a quality strong side hip holster that covers the trigger or a holster purse, and minimally 100 rounds of ammunition for range time in level I and an additional 115 rounds of ammunition for Level II. NO firearms or live ammunition will be allowed in the classroom.
